If you are a low income individual, single mom, senior citizen, or veteran who needs help with home repairs and improvements, you may be eligible for assistance through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

HUD offers home repair grants and other resources to help individuals and families in need make necessary home improvements.

Single mothers who need financial help with home repairs can apply for a HUD Single Family Home Improvement Program (SFHIP) grant. The program provides grants up to $5,000 that can be used to make repairs or improvements to a single family residence.

Eligible improvements may include repairs to roofs, windows, doors, siding, and insulation, as well as structural repair or renovation work.

Seniors in need of home repairs and improvements can apply for the HUD Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly Program.

This program helps senior citizens cover the costs of necessary repairs to their homes, such as replacing major appliances, improving accessibility, and making energy efficient improvements.

Eligible applicants must be at least 62 years old and must meet certain income requirements.

Veterans who need help can apply for HUD home repair grants from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). VA grants provide funding to veterans who have served in the military and need assistance with home repairs and renovations due to service related injuries. Grants are available up to $20,000 and can be used for such improvements as modifying or adapting a home to make it accessible or energy efficient.

No matter which program you qualify for, you may be able to get help with home repairs or improvements that are necessary for your health and safety.
